A kind of web designing practise which provides optimal viewing experience to websites, including minimum navigation, easy reading, scrolling and editing. The web design in this case responds to the kind of device it is being used in such as whether in a mobile phone, a personal computer or a tablet. The platform, the screen resolution and size, orientation and similar factors determine how the design will present itself. This kind of web design makes use of flexible layouts and grids, CSS media and images smartly to create certain smoothness in functioning.

The need for responsive we design becomes stronger in an age where the use of the internet is no longer limited to the personal computer or the laptop. Mobile phones and tablets are vastly being used by people to look up things on the internet or simply to stay connected while on the go. The sheer variety of mobile phones, tablets, computers, laptops, notepads makes it essential for the development of responsive web design – it is simple impossible to create a separate website for different viewing experiences.

In the year 2004, Cameron Adams was the first person to demonstrate an example of website layout that changes itself to browser viewport. Terms such as ‘flexible’, ‘fluid’, ‘liquid’ and the like were being used in reference to web designs such as these around the years 2008 and 2009. The term ‘responsive web design’ was used by Ethan Marcotte and it came to mean fluid grids, media queries and flexible images.

Some essential features of responsive web design are:

Screen orientations and definitions keep changing and evolving each years as hundreds of new models of phones and tablets are launched. Flexibility has become the call of the day when it comes to web design. Images, grids and mark ups are all fluid. An image for a responsive web design is divided into two parts – one is used as the background and the other is the detail on the foreground which is to be cropped according to size.

In cases where the size is drastically different, the entire layout may have to be changed. This has to be done either through a CSS media query or through a separate style sheet. Major style sheets can remain similar and only a few specific ones can incorporate change along with flexible height, width and the like. In cases where the style sheet has created a too narrow layout, this can be detected and thus the site can switch to a new style sheet.

The CSS3 has all the previous features that were present with the CSS 2.1 along with a few more such as maximum width, colour, orientation, device width and more. These features are all supported by devices which released after the launch of CSS3. It allows creating multiple style sheets and basic alterations to layout according the range of width. The minimu width feature sets a minimum screen or browser width which can be applicable to a certain set of styles. Anything which crosses the maximum screen or browser width will not be applicable to the respective media query. The best way to use media queries is to put all of them in a single CSS style sheet, while the rest of the styles remain for the websites. This does away with the need of creating multiple style sheets for multiple requests. Devices which don’t support CSS3 use JavaScript.

Responsive web design also allows users to choose content. Designs also differ from devices which use touchscreen as compared to those with cursors. However, responsive web design by nature needs to go through constant evaluation with the emergence of different designs and models of phones, tablets, laptops and computers.

Web hosting service providers often provide free services along with the web hosting you purchase. There are a number of benefits of these services and these include provisions such as:

Free Domain Name – Usually, web hosting with free domains are available for a span of one year and are great for those who want to explore a new market online or those who want to be present online only for a short period of time. A good use of free domains can be made by those who want to set up a website for an event such as a bike show or a college fest. You can also set up a temporary website with a free domain for reaching out to your customers and then work on a better website and launch it once this one year of free domain is over.

Google Ads – Google’s new advertising system is beneficial to all sorts of websites in ways more than one. The first thing that it does is removing the taboo that the ad is just presented to lure the customers by placing it through relevant product or service related searches on Google. Users thus don’t feel the burden of being pushed to see an ad but can jolly well visit your website considering it as a suggestion from Google. Again, by virtue of placing your ads through Google you are better positioned to reach out to customers from all over the world which is very difficult to achieve through other modes. AdWords by Google also allow advertisers to understand the response their ad is creating and thereby edit the ad for betterment. You are also able to set a daily budget with Google advertising and only need to pay per click.

One Click Installer Softaculous – Softaculous integrates with various control panels such as Plesk and cPanel. It allows you to simply go through an online category of applications and scripts and you can install it with one simple click. It is easy to use and offers more than 300 scripts which are regularly updated. It comes with a good user interface, provision for editing installation settings through its interface, tools for backup and restore, demo through scripts before they are installed and active community forums and proper technical support.

30 Days Money Back Guarantee – Among all returns policies of products and services, the money back guarantee is the most exciting and it is best when it is offered within a span of one month or 30 days. A month is enough time to understand the functioning of a website and feeling whether the outcomes are like what you expected or not. You can also understand whether the interface offered is easy for you, whether you are being able to reach out to the right customer base, whether you are getting adequate disk space, how secure your website it and more. Most of the leading web hosting services provides a return of money if the customer is not satisfied with the services offered or if they fail to stick to their promises of deliverance.

Unlimited Disk Space, Bandwidth, Domains and Sub-domains, E-mail Accounts, Forwarders and Respondents, FTP Accounts, MySQL Databases – Anything unlimited seems good and if it is disk space and bandwidth, you are better positioned to upload innumerable files with speed and are particularly benefitted since this is the starting of your business online. Unlimited email accounts would mean that you no longer restrict yourself to managing one account and working day and night to keep it organised – you are free to segregate your mail according to importance, kind and preference. Web hosting services also provide unlimited MySQL databases and FTP accounts which prove to be extremely helpful to businesses especially during their initial days on the internet.

Robust and User Friendly Control Panel – When you are setting up a business online or making your presence felt online for the first time, you would obviously want a control panel which does not call for too much thinking and complicated handling for editing your posts, changing the ads according to response and such other activities. This is what the web hosting providers also understand and hence provide for free.

Web hosting is the service using which you will be able to have a website on the internet. Similar to purchasing a piece of land for building a house, web…

Web hosting is the service using which you will be able to have a website on the internet. Similar to purchasing a piece of land for building a house, web hosting is purchasing a web space for positioning your website. Now, the three main types of web hosting services are shared hosting, VPS and dedicated servers. Each kind of hosting comes with its own set of pros and cons related to costs, management, ease of use, security and other aspects. The choice depends on the requirements of the company who want their website up on the internet. If you are confused regarding the choice among the three kinds of web hosting services, then you should go through the following discussion and find out which is more suitable for you.

Just like the name suggests, shared hosting requires you to share your web space with others. Thus, your data must be limited so that you don’t hinder the functioning of other websites sharing the same space as yours. So, you cannot do something which will create a sudden increase in traffic since it will disrupt the functioning of other websites. Flexibility is limited with shared hosting as you are bound to use only the resources you get from your hosting provider and no more. Though shared hosting is not totally unsecured since the hosting service will provide some sort of security but any malware on one particular website will affect the others sharing the server. In spite of all of this, shared hosting is chosen by many businesses and individuals for its considerably lower expenses. It is good for those who run a small business or want to start off their online presence in a small way, those who do not have the requirements to share data rapidly or are not in need of security layers.

A VPS is like getting a flat in a building since here a dedicated server is partitioned in multiple spaces. Webspace in a VPS is much more in comparison to a shared hosting and you can change the scale of bandwidth, web space you need. The performance on one website does not have a bearing on the other sharing the server and you will also have the freedom of installing customized features and applications. The security flaws of a shared hosting are also not seen in a VPS and it is in the medium range of expense, that is, between shared hosting and dedicated servers. VPS is best for MSM sector businesses and for ecommerce websites since they experience sudden growths in traffic owing to certain offers and introductions. Security layers are also available with VPS.

If you have the capital and the resources to manage your own server, then dedicated servers are the best option for you. You can add as much space as your requirement is, install as many and kinds of software, applications and features as you need without the worry of affecting other sharing websites. The security level is also the highest for websites hosted on dedicates servers. However, the costs involved in creating and maintaining a dedicated server is what makes them a choice mostly taken by large enterprises and companies which are likely to have a regular heavy traffic flow on their website. Those who need high CPU storage, and are likely to have rich informative content on their website should opt for dedicated servers if they can afford it.

Thus, it is the issues of data security, privacy, affordability and flexibility which go into making a website good or bad for you.

More and more businesses are going online every day and the need for the same is being felt even more as you sit at home or work and read this…

More and more businesses are going online every day and the need for the same is being felt even more as you sit at home or work and read this article. The importance of having a website, and a good one, is being increasingly felt since everything and everyone is online. One of the basic concepts/terms associated with having a website designed for your website is ‘web hosting’. A lot of curiosity has been generated regarding this without proper information.

When you plan to start a website, you will need to publish it and this will be done through a web hosting service. Web hosting is a space provided to you on the internet where you can place your website. For example, if you plan to construct a house for yourself and your family, you will first need to acquire a piece of land – you will need to purchase it. Similarly, a web hosting service will provide you with a space where you website can be developed and placed. Web hosting is used by different people in different ways – for ecommerce, for writing about their personal experiences, for promoting their business, for sharing their work, etc.

Your website files are stored in web-servers or high-powered computers and connected to a super speedy network by services of web hosting. When someone types your address on the internet, the latter connects with the web server which holds your website files and then transfers the information on your website to the computer of the person searching for it. Users can thus proceed with surfing your website and the contents of it.

There are many types of web hosting services used on the internet such as shared ones and personal dedicated services. The choice depends completely on the requirements of the user and the budgetary allowances.

Shared Hosting – This is the most common option chosen by those who are planning to launch a website for the first time or own a small business but want to be present on the internet or for bloggers. This service provides shared space on the web server which is utilised by other users thus keeping the costs low since a lot of people are using the same equipment. This is the main advantage of this kind of hosting service and a lot of businesses choose to start with this kind of web hosting, choosing to upgrade later on as they expand.

Reseller Hosting – Those of you who are keen on starting your own web hosting business or want to make it big can choose this option. In reseller hosting, you will be purchasing a large amount of disk space from a company, thus getting your own bandwidth, workspace, website and will be able to device your own business plans. You will be able to have a customized website and can even start selling web space to other interested parties.

VPS Hosting – Virtual Private Server or VPS is a good balance between expense and maintenance. It is a good alternative of dedicated servers in terms of cost effectiveness and maintenance. Those who use this kind of hosting will be in complete charge of their server since they will be the sole owners of the server. In this kind of hosting, a dedicated server is divided into different segments and each segment is like a virtual server having its own OS and IP.

Dedicated Servers – This kind of server will be owned and controlled by you exclusively. Though this kind of a server is considerably more expensive than the previous ones mentioned here, you will also be getting better security, higher performance and a more flexible website.

The first and most important decision that you need to take about your website is which operating system it will be running on. In the next step, you will be…

The first and most important decision that you need to take about your website is which operating system it will be running on. In the next step, you will be choosing the Web hosting company and it is best to make this choice on the basis of the services they have on offer. The two most common web hosting packages offered by companies are Linux Hosting and Windows Hosting. Our article here discusses which one you should be choosing in order to serve your purpose fully.

Linux Hosting – Linux has long been considered the most reliable and efficient of all servers. However, the question still remains as to what requirements does your website have? What kinds of applications do you plan on using? Linux is known for its ability to remain robust and giving websites a high-up time. The Linux OS is free or at the most very cheap in spite of being a full-fledged server and having the ability to support applications such as DNS Server, FTP, Web Server and File Server. Hosting on Linux servers is easier as compared to Windows and you will be free to use almost any kind of file extensions such as.html, .cgi, .htm, .php, .pl, .shtml, .xml, etc. This gives you freedom to host websites which use different types of scripts such as.pl, .cgi, .php, and .asp. A website at its basic level is just a few pages of html which develops with the increase in the requirements of the customer. A Linux based server website can incorporate a large scale of customer requirements without making any major site design changes.

Windows Hosting – This is used by webmasters in need of designing dynamic websites and using scripting language such as ASP or ASP.NET. Allowing true integration with Microsoft’s products and allowing web sites to run Active Server Pages, it also allows through Microsoft’s server, integration with SQL database platform which happens to be one of the strongest database solutions. Windows hosting is a good choice for those whose websites run on .net since Linux hosting does not provide compatibility with these languages. If you are using a well-known program for web designing, such as Microsoft Front Page, your job will be simplified by the use of Windows Hosting. There will be no hassles related to making support extensions for server like MySQL, MS SQL, ASP.NET, ASP, etc. If you website is in need of an access database, you will be able to achieve this through a Windows server in a better way. Though there are many options for database creation and maintenance such as MySQL, Access is the preferred choice for many and a Windows server makes this integration much easier. Those of you, who need a dynamically driven website and want to use .ASP or Active Server Pages, will be better off choosing a Windows OS. .ASP is not supported by Linux OS and thus you are not left with any other option.

Sometime towards the middle of last year, Google made an announcement stating that it will be using SSL or HTTPS as a ‘lightweight’ ranking signal within their searching algorithm.…

Sometime towards the middle of last year, Google made an announcement stating that it will be using SSL or HTTPS as a ‘lightweight’ ranking signal within their searching algorithm. The company also stated that this would affect less than a 1% of global searches but they may also decide to improve the HTTPS ranking signal with time. This would occur after webmasters the chance to change their websites to HTTPS. Moving to HTTPS need not be number one on the priority list of webmasters since it is not likely to dramatically improve your page rankings but it is something which needs consideration at your end.

– From Official Google Blog :

For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We’ve seen positive results, so we’re starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it’s only a very lightweight signal—affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content—while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web. Official Google Blog

Those of you who publish non-ecommerce websites online will experience some benefits from using SSL/HTTPS. You won’t need to spend a lot of money for installing an SSL certificate on your website either and the slightest difference that it makes can prove to be useful for your site. Websites which are informational and based on written content will reap benefits out of shifting to an SSL certificate since it will give you an SEO boost in Google. Again, if you are using more than one subdomain for your content or have an exchange server, you can rather invest in a premium SSL certificate. This can be more expensive though however, it will be under $100 anyway.

On the other hand, if you run an ecommerce website or something which requires users to enter their sensitive information, using the right kind of SSL will shoot up your conversion rates and thus increase your revenues. You’re your thinking that the SSL prices are high, keep these advantages in mind. Having an EV cert will increase trust levels among visitors improving your conversions. The advantages of HTTPS have been known for long. Studies show that larger corporations may be in need of a multi-domain UCC SSL certificate and smaller ones can do with a Multi-subdomain Wildcard SSL certificate. How will you know which one is right for your need? Contact someone who has a long experience of dealing with SSL certificates.

The first step towards ensuring that you are doing everything to ensure sales conversion are at their ideal positions is to find the right certificate authority especially now. A good certificate authority will be able to guide you in the right direction in choosing the right SSL certificate best for your requirements. For example, if you require a green address bar when customers are trying to arrive at a buying decision, you can well pay for an extra extended verification or EV. The green address bar is constant reminder to users that a website is trustworthy which definitely creates an impact on the mind of the user helping them to arrive at a decision when they are shopping online.

An increase in the number of visitors can help increase your overall sales leading to increased conversions you get out from your traffic – even though your traffic might not increase to a considerable extent, you will experience a change in sales. These days, all you need to do is pay attention to smaller details such as having the right kind of SSL certificate and you can end up with great positive results. The competition online is unthinkable in the present day and SSL can help you get an edge over the others.

A website security system, Sitelock has multiple functions and users can choose according to their requirements. The two broad functions and components of SiteLock are prevention of malware attack and credibility badge. Malware attack prevention means that your website is scanned daily for malware and necessary actions such as removal are undertaken. The credibility badge feature shows every visitor to the site that you have been scanned for the day.

Now the question is whether Sitelock is essential or not. According to many reviewers both online and offline, the program is worth a try for those who are worried about the day to day security of their websites. SMB’s find it difficult to keep a constant check on website malware and other similar intrusions. Website security is an area which needs constant attention and thus is not possible to ensure by all sorts of businesses who either don’t have the infrastructure or the resources to pay daily attention to it. An automated tool such as Sitelock will be good for such businesses and concerns.

SiteLock advertises its ability to boost site conversions by 15% by protecting the site. If this is a true claim, then not only is the program good for your website but will also help you get more viewers and buyers since users will feel safer buying from a website which is protected. Though the concerns over website hacking are not completely invalid, excessive worries about your website getting hacked every day is not healthy either. A survey revealed in the year 2011 that 90% of 600 company websites were hacked in a matter of one year. However, these hackings were internal network breaches and not malware installations. Again, the incidents of attacks on websites are also not rare and the impact created by such occurrences can be massive – affecting your reputation to a great extent and at the same time your company revenues. As protection software and programs are becoming more compatible to deal with different kinds of viruses, malware is also improving in nature, becoming more sophisticated and difficult to detect.

Sitelock is also useful if you run the following:

Sitelock will scan your systems for bugs and other security concerns if you run Content Management Systems such as WordPress, Drupal or other ecommerce systems such as Zen Cart, Pinnacle Cart and other store builders online.

It will scan your website applications for bugs and suggest if you need any upgrades – outdated applications can cause great harm to your website.

PCI compliance is essential for websites which accept credit cards for online payments and Sitelock gives an easy-to-use application helping most merchants to complete the compliance process and keep their customer data protected. This ensures that your company meets the PCI compliance rules and you have a good reputation.

More often than not, hackers inject scripts into your website to steal data and information from your visitors which leads to your website becoming blacklisted by Internet Service Providers and search engines. Your ranking and reputation goes down the drain and some major damage is done. Sitelock protects your website from SQL injections and Cross Site Scripting.

Running unprotected services on your website makes the latter unsecured and this might eventually lead to attacks on your hardware. Sitelock protects your server from such occurrences and scans numerous ports to see which ones are appropriate, finds out security gaps and other bugs for the hardware.

Sitelock also helps to do away with database vulnerabilities, keep your network secured, remove spam black list and give discounts on expert services.

At the end of the analysis, Sitelock can be considered a good buy for the main reason that it provides additional protecting against malware. This helps in maintaining a good reputation and also increasing sales since users will rely on your website management capabilities. An increase in sales can be observed consequently. Considering the services you get, Sitelock is worth a try. You can try it for free and customize it to choose features and functions you need to avoid unnecessary expenses.
